I have heard various reports in the news that the Birmingham Binmen Strike is nearing a resolution, and they hope to have good news for us by early next month. But what if talks do break down again for whatever reason? Can the government demand that an ACAS team be mobilised to settle this dispute, or aid the situation by adding a little cash to the discussions.

We Birmingham residents are totally fed up with the current situation and did not dream in our worst nightmares that this problem would have dragged on for one and a half years without being resolved. It is time to reach an agreement.

I would hope for "win-win" negotiations, where parties look for creative solutions to expand the pie so that both sides can leave happy, rather than just splitting a smaller pie down the middle.

But at this point, I would go for any solution - "So long as neither side is happy, it is a fair agreement."

Yours in disgust,

Ivor Cogdell.
