20260913 – Prab G - Anti Migrant Protests In Portsmouth

To suggest that Portsmouth is a racist city with racist people is a gross misrepresentation of the facts.  I am from Portsmouth and have lived there for more than forty-five years.  It is a beautiful place with lovely people.  I am proud to be associated with Portsmouth; I consider it to be my home town.  The much-loved and respected Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Abdul Kadir is a devout Muslim who was born in Bangladesh. He is pushing for the construction of Portsmouth's first Hindu temple.  It is that sort of place, and the whole country should be proud of Portsmouth.

But it is correct that there were anti migrant protests taking place, with people chanting stop the boats.  As mentioned in earlier posts by yours truly and also in our sister website immigrationconcern.com, there may be a few hooligans, thugs and criminals trying to hijack these protests, but the majority were ordinary, decent people. There were protests because the people are afraid.  They are scared.  Scared because successive governments have got rid of migrants who make a contribution to society and are most welcome in the community, but welcomed undocumented migrants with generous offerings, not knowing who they are. 

Many of these migrants have raped, maimed and murdered innocent citizens, and toothless government ministers have stood by and just watched.  The government claims 18000 people have been deported.  What they do not tell you is not one of them was an undocumented migrant.  

For their own political gain and to give the public the illusion that they were doing something, they deported and removed large numbers of documented migrants who were contributing to our society.  It is a fact that an undocumented migrant coming in on a small boat is welcomed into the country with his or her whole family, put in taxpayer-funded accommodation, given food and money, but the honest, law-abiding care workers who look after your granny cannot come here so easily and most certainly cannot bring their families with them.  When this not very intelligent policy was introduced by the first immigration minister under the newly elected Labour government, I begged her to reverse this flawed policy.  

In Andy Burnham, we have an able Prime Minister, but we have seen little or no positive action from his, not one, but two, immigration ministers.  What I and the public demand is that if the immigration ministers cannot deliver results, then appoint people who are more competent. The public demands that they show us action with immediate results in this matter or resign now.

I also call on the Prime Minister to listen to the people of Portsmouth.  Give Portsmouth based Airbus the massive defence contract ahead of American rivals Lockheed Martin.  People believe in Andy Burnham because he comes across as a man of the people.  He has told us that successive governments got it wrong.  We have the best brains and the best talent in this country.  Give the contracts to British companies.
