The government is still spending over five hundred pounds a day to house certain asylum seekers and their families. Protests have fallen on the deaf ears of ministers, even when people like me have given them the solution.
I was in charge of teams to arrange cheap accommodation for refugees during the Kosovo war. Government officials had me investigated by the police because all the boffs, toffs and professor-type academics had told them it could not be done.
Not only did we house them in clean, cheap accommodation, but we made sure they went back once the war was over. The boats can be stopped in a matter of weeks if the government were serious.
A whole industry has grown around immigration, which has enriched those with access to VIP routes. Rooms costing five hundred pounds a month are being let out at five hundred pounds per night. Successive governments have allowed those with contacts to become millionaires.
